 The Eelgrinders

The Eelgrinders have over twelve years experience playing for dance, specialising in both British and French traditions. David Faulkner calls dances for the Eelgrinders, or the band can work with a caller of your choice.

The Eelgrinders sound blends together elements of classical, traditional and jazz. Their music moves with grace and style and is delivered with sparkling virtuosity on border pipes, whistles, trumpet, accordion, fiddle and percussion.

The Eelgrinders also perform an exciting concert programme mixing new and traditional music played on traditional and modern instruments. They have gained a well-deserved reputation for their original compositions, reflecting the diversity of the British musical landscape. Eelgrinders music has been featured on Radio 3's Late Junction program. Expect elements of classical, traditional and jazz, with richly textured arrangements and sumptuous and powerful harmonies executed with a sparkling virtuosity.

The Eelgrinders teach traditional French Dance workshops - with the stylish dance variations from the Morvan region a speciality. Also individual instrument and group music workshops, technique, repertoire and group work.

The Eelgrinders are :-
David Faulkner : English bagpipes, whistles, trumpet
Lawrence Morgan-Anstee : English bagpipes, whistles
Helena Torpy : Violin, percussion, voice
Steve Turner : Accordion

The Eelgrinders have released two CDs on their own Sargasso Sounds label, and individual members of the band have released a further two CDs

End of the Day
British & Cajun acoustic music duo.

End of the Day are: Nathan Sanders – twelve-string guitar, melodeon, Cajun accordion & vocals and Mark Stephenson - violin and cello. This highly individual Plymouth-based folk roots duo boast not only their own unique blend of British acoustic and Cajun music but also a unique sound in the combination of their instrumentation.

Although the emphasis of End of the Day’s British set is on England, their varied collection of songs is interspersed with exuberant jigs and reels from Scotland, the Shetland Isles, Ireland and the occasional folk tune from Sweden, Poland and France, adding a European flavour to their sound.

This set includes (some lesser known) songs by an eclectic variety of contemporary British artists in a range of musical styles. “All in their essence”, say Nathan and Mark …..”the folk music of our modern times!”

Their British set is completed with some of Nathan’s own songs which incorporate arrangements on twelve string guitar and cello/or violin.

A lively and interesting twist in End of the Day’s performance is a rousing Cajun set, consisting of two-steps and waltzes on Cajun accordion (single-row melodeon) and violin, accompanied by traditional French lyrics, to really get your feet tapping.

End of the Day’s music is best suited to intimate settings where the duo are happiest performing without amplification. However, they can access a PA if necessary and are available for pub gigs, festivals, clubs, community events, weddings and ‘Bals de Maison’ (house parties). Other events will also be considered.

For more information please phone Nathan on 01752 669567 or e-mail [email protected]
