The Walpot Brothers

Luc Walpot - Harp
Marc Walpot - Violin

Marc and Luc have been performing for a number of years professionally together. Both immaculately attired they perform a wide repertoire - Cletic music, Classical, Irish jigs reels and ballads, as well as many O'Carolan pieces. The very melodic and lyrical combination of harp and violin is a beautiful collaboration. Very romantic moving pieces and outstandingly presented make this duet very unique.

They have performed in a wide variety of contexts: Wedding receptions, banquets, for the services, special private functions, hotels, festivals as well as a performance broadcast on Westcountry Live television.

Their repertoire is always growing as they continually assess their public and what people enjoy to hear. Marc and Luc's versatility and professionalism in dress, conduct and performance make them a joy to listen to.

spinach for norman

Spinach for Norman are an all-string Ceilidh band. From their varied backgrounds - Irish, Dutch, Jewish, Rumanian, even English -  a repertoire of music from all over the British Isles and Europe, the Middle East and an all string sound which owes a little to the traditional music of Shetland and Nova Scotia has gradually emerged.

Ben Van Weede, one of the band's two violin players, who is also well known as a string teacher and for his solo performances including a partnership  with Paul Wilson. Joel Segal (violin), a non-gentile with a wandering Rumanian ancestry, adds an exotic edge to the music with a large range of Yiddish, Klezmer, and Middle Eastern tunes as well as Irish, Scottish and English tunes and dances. Howard Harrison (guitar) is a composer, writes award winning books, has the only known paper organ in the world and lectures in performing arts. Martin Henning on bass guitar brings his Irish background and some experiences of Jazz, early and World music, Caberet and R&B counting among his seminal influences Gabriel Yacoub and John Coltrain.

Recordings: Spinach for Norman (cassette tape)
                   Spinach Mean Time (cassette tape)
Ready to Start Again (CD SFN1) Music and Instructions for 14 traditional dances. Dancing has been a way for us to socialise and make merry for as long as there has been a history to record it. The style featured on Ready to Start Again taps into the depths of this tradition. It is a great mixer, a leveller, great aerobics and is nowadays known as Ceilidh, Country or Barn Dancing.

Sue White and Tony Taylor
Folk/Rockers with a difference

Though they sing the rootsy Celtic mix of Scottish, Cornish, French and irish songs they add bits of 60's music, American Bluegrass and Old Time, Rockabilly and anything else that grabs their fancy .... including some of Tony's songs. They sung and played and toured the UK and Europe for over 10 years and though old enough to know better they're wise enough to know it's too late to stop now!

Sue White - Sue is from the East ... no not the Hindu Kush ... but Essex. And she knows all the jokes ... unabridged. She spent her early years much influenced by her brothers playing in skiffle and folk bands including the Streakers. She moved to Cornwall in the early 70's and has been one of the movers and shakers of the South west music scene. An experienced performer ... she knows her Carrickfergus from her Shoals of herring and Wildwood Flower.

Tony Taylor
- A Rock'n'Roll fan from the 50's. Went to sea at 16 and was in Manilla with the Beatles. Made a film on the Byrds in 1971 and this inspired him to music full time. Signed as a songwriter to EMI Music in 1975 and recorded as Captain Video. Moved to Cornwall in the 80's. Started singing with Sue soon after. Picks banjo and plays guitar and sings. Knows his Warren Zevron from his Sleepy La Beef.

MAD RUSH

Warm, expressive trad. folk, blues, country and original songs and tunes.

Ned Couch was lead guitarist in a pop, rock and heavy metal band before coming to folk three years ago. Guitars are his main love, he admits to having a 'bit of a collection', but he also fiddles around on banjo and mandolin. Influences are mainly Ritchie Blackmore, Gary Moore and Mark Knopfler but since embracing folk he has made a promising start at songwriting, and has his own definite style.

Den Couch has been performing since the age of eight in clubs and pubs around the Westcountry and ran the course of pop & folk in the late 60's, rock & folk in the 70's and disco-pop in the 80's, going further afield and touring Europe. Singing and playing piano and accordian, she now indulges her deep love of traditional music. She also gives musical workshops for adults, has run 10-week courses on Victorian Music Hall performance and co-organises and accompanies Shoestring, a 12-piece company of performers. A freelance writer and journalist, she has only recently come to songwriting, and contributes several songs to the new album.
