Les has a long affection and understanding of ships and the sea. His love of the sea developed with his service with the Royal Navy, the Royal Navy Reserve, the Royal Navy Auxiliary Service and his time spent as a fisherman in Brixham, Devon. Not content to let go of his maritime past, he is now crew member and restoration team on "Vigilance" of Brixham, a 78 foot heritage sailing ketch, available for corporate or private charter. Throughout all this time he has been a keen performer of traditional song and a respected writer of maritime pieces, notably his well-known "Back Amongst The Mermaids".
