FIDDLE PLAYER WANTED LANCASHIRE Silver Dogs are an "ambient folk rock" band based in Lancashire and we are looking for a replacement violin/fiddle player.
We have been described as a cross between Fairport Convention and Pink Floyd and perform in and around the NW of England in small theatre and selected music venues. Recent performances in the North West UK include shows at Bollington Arts Centre, Bury Met, Playhouse2 Shaw, and Darwen Library Theatre. Our music is based on fresh arrangements and treatments of contemporary folk songs and this is particularly noticeable in Crazy Man Michael, King Cotton and our recreation of the traditional version of A Sailor's Life in particular, as well as in sections of many other songs. The band also includes a number of original songs in the set and a selected number of covers by legendary songwriters such as Lal Waterson and Richard Thompson. Silver Dogs play a selection of songs by the legendary Sandy Denny including The Sea, One More Chance and Who Knows Where the Time Goes. Although musically different, the band acknowledges the debt any folk rock band owes to Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention for creating the genre in the first place. We are looking for a seasoned and experienced fiddle player to join this fantastic band who is prepared to assist with song writing and arranging and be an active team player, the ability to play other instruments such as mandolin, acoustic guitar is an advantage but not essential. Anyone interested in the position should contact Neil on 07931161722 or Our web site at website > will provide more information on the band and its current members. |

The Sidmouth Traditional Mummers are a group of Sidmouth residents who each year perform the local Christmas mumming play around our area. Over the coming months we are very much involved in a 'community play' written by one of our members, Pete Wilson. This play deals with the effect of the first few months of the 1914-1918 war on a small Devon community, particularly as seen through the eyes of members of the village mumming team.
My wife, Rosie and I have volunteered to coordinate the music and song, which will be part of this production, and for this purpose will be looking to form a small 'pit orchestra' to provide accompaniments during the performances, which will be three in number to take place over the Armistice weekend in November, as well as rehearsals throughout the summer. The music involved will be a mixture of well-known popular songs of the time (e.g. 'Tipperary') with several traditional and contemporary folk songs. We would like to hear from singers and musicians who might be interested in being part of this project and who live within easy reach of the Sidmouth area, and are willing to put aside the time needed to rehearse. We would particularly be pleased to hear from a piano/keyboard player and a piano-accordionist, both of whom should be reasonably proficient at both playing by ear and reading some music. The reading element would probably be small, but would prove an advantage. They should also have the ability to get on well in a group situation as they may well be asked to work with people less experienced than themselves. We would also be interested in hearing from a banjo player (rhythm) and fiddler. There would also be opportunity for these people to take small acting roles if they wish. For more information please telephone Henry on 01404 811491 or |

The Ransome Crawlers are a loosely celtic based ceilidh band operating in Cornwall. We're increasingly being invited to play in Devon(!) but don't really fancy travelling that far being the parochial lot that we are. Are there any Devon based ceilidh bands that might wish to be offered these gigs who play in a similar style & would in turn pass on any Cornwall based stuff to us?Checkout our website >
